Encourage healthy eating with Great Groceries

The Ultimate Guide

Inspired by the Eat Well Plate, The Great Groceries Guide takes key food groups and focuses on the health benefits of each one, encouraging children to try new ingredients for a healthy, balanced meal every day.

We have created fun, engaging characters with special powers that children can relate to. With 52 characters and counting, our family from around the world is growing. All of our recipes link these ingredients to the characters and their health benefits to help children connect with food in a different way.

Our Badges

We have made it easy for kids to remember each character’s superpower. Just look out for the little badge each one is wearing as it shows you what it is good for. It is a clever way of linking food with the body and gets kids thinking about food in a different way.

Foods good for your heart

The Science...

Broken up into fruit and veg, protein, carbohydrates and dairy. We make it easy for kids to remember each character’s superpower and the food group it belongs to.

Green = fruit & veg.

Pink = protein

Yellow = carbohydrates

Blue = dairy.

Just look out for the little badge each one is wearing to tell you how it helps the human body.

Health benefits
Discover the health benefits of bananas

The characters have been designed to educate children about the nutritional value of food and how it impacts our bodies. They are named so that children can relate to them on a more human level and they each have a special job which is enhanced by their ‘superpower’ so they create a connection between the health benefit and the real world application. For example: bananas are high in Potassium and are vital in nerve conduction, so Belinda Banana is an electrician.

We believe in inclusivity and smashing gender and racial stereotypes, so our characters are seen in a wide variety of jobs reflecting today’s society.

Education is a key focus in our boxes, so to encourage literacy skills we inspire children to write us a short story each month with the characters selected from our character profile. We start the story off with a sentence and it is up to the children to finish the rest. Each month we pick our favourite and ask Minh Mushroom to illustrate it for us.
